Civics Outreach with Briarcrest High School
On October 4, 2019, the Court welcomed juniors and seniors from
Briarcrest High School for an inside look at the legal process. Among
other activities, the students had the opportunity to meet with and
ask questions of United States District Judges John Fowlkes, Sheryl
Lipman, and Thomas Parker.
The students had the opportunity to observe a
sentencing hearing presided over by U.S. District Judge John T.
Fowlkes, Jr. (pictured above). Following the hearing, the students
had the chance to ask Judge Fowlkes questions about himself, the
judiciary, and the criminal justice system. Here Judge Fowlkes
shows the group the Federal Sentencing Guidelines Manual.
